The Time Stream

This was one of the nerdiest dreams I’ve ever had and also one of the cleverest, with two puns that made me laugh and question my sanity when I woke up.

It started off I was with The Doctor and Rose (I warn you, this is mostly a Doctor Who dream) and Jenny Flint (from the Paternoster Gang) came to us to ask for help. We all travelled back in time using the Doctor’s spare hand (from The Christmas Invasion) and when we got there, Rose finished her report of where they’d just been. At one point, she was writing about Kanye West and insisted on including a line that said his music was ‘shit’. I don’t particularly like swearing (it pained me to type it just then) so I told her to change it. Instead she wrote ‘shite’ but I told her that was still rude, so she said “What about shité?” but the way she pronounced it – “Shitaaay” – caused us both to burst out laughing and she broke character, becoming Billie Piper for a while.

Eventually, we got to where we needed to be. We found Vastra and Strax but they were both unwell and needed help from River Song. They told us we could find her in her time stream.

The time stream turned out to be a big river with a digital clock sort of projected onto it. This was the first pun.

We found River swimming in the stream and the clock was at 06:20. She called over to us “See that 0, that will change to a 1.”
Right on cue, the 06:20 changed to 06:21. At this point, River shouted out to the creatures who lived in the water “I need that 1, it’s part of my time line.”

Now, this is where the second pun is, but you have to imagine it. On a digital clock, the number 1 is a straight line. So it’s a part of time that’s a line… a time line. Yes, I know it’s terribly convoluted, but still, not bad for my subconscious.

We convinced the creatures in the sea to let us have the 1 and we did something with it. We were then able to travel back in time to find the bomb that was about to blow up the building where Vastra and Strax were and stop it. We then travelled back to them and they were both fine. Strax told the Doctor that his taxi had arrived, but the Doctor wanted to talk to Vastra alone, so he sent me and Strax out to the taxi. I kept calling him Strax, but I somehow knew that he was a fictional character, I was just staying in character for my part. The Doctor and Vastra soon followed us and the taxi dropped me off at my mother’s workplace where I helped her organise some cards in a filing cabinet.
