Vok and Bock
Had a dream last night that started with me and Mike at some expo. We had been looking for something to eat and ended up at a McDonalds stand. They were trailing some new foods, with a table for some new chips and another table for a noodle dish.
Mike and I tried the chips and then went up to pay. Mike said he’d pay, but I put the PIN number in the card machine. I realised it was the same as my PIN number, so I pointed it out to Mike. Then he told me that it wasn’t the same, I’d used my card to pay. I made some joke and the woman serving laughed. She asked if we’d try the noodles and Mike said we hadn’t. I asked if she’d tried them and she hadn’t, so I said we’d buy some and let her try them.
There was another point in the dream where I was flying in a little plane. It was only tiny, like the sort of thing that would be outside a shop for a child to ride in. I was flying high over the countryside and speaking to someone through a headset. I dropped a handkerchief over the side and watched as it flew down towards the houses and then was blown off course by the wind into houses in a neighbouring village. Over the headset, a girl (who was apparently my daughter) told me she was doing her geography homework, so I cheerily said I’d fly to a different country so I could tell her about it and she could use it in her work. “Don’t be silly,” she joked, but I flew off in my little plane.
In the final part of the dream, I was at home. Mother was in the bath and she shouted out that I should go for a walk until teatime, so I did.
I walked to the park where I usually take the dog for a walk, but the gate was chained up and there was a sign saying it was closed while they interviewed people for a job.
There were a few other kids there. There was an older woman, a tall guy, another guy (I don’t remember what he was like) and Emma Watson. I decided to go to the building on the other side of the park. I can’t remember what it was now. I think it was like a care home or community centre or something. All I can remember is that it looked like a big, round house painted white. Anyway, I went to head off there and Emma suggested to her group they they should go to this building, so we all walked together.
When we got there, Emma put forward the idea of going to the cafe in the building. I’d been there before, so I pitched in and said it was a good cafe. She then started talking to me and told me about her group, which were all well read people who got together to talk about things. Books, politics, art, anything. I asked if they met often and she said, “Yes. It’s a regular thing, sometimes. We’re a fairly regular group.”
The group was named after a book. I can’t remember what it was now though, which is really annoying. Each member was named after a character from the book. The only names I can remember are Vok and Bock (it may have been Vock and Bok; every time I change it I remember it the other way) because I pointed out how confusing that must get. I think Emma was Vok. We went into the cafe and sat at a table. The older woman got out a spreadsheet to add my name to the group. She asked what my favourite colour was and I said I didn’t mind. Secretly I wanted blue, but I didn’t know who else had what colour. She suggested blue and I said yes. She said, “Okay, I’ll get rid of my husband then and you can be blue.” This surprised me a little. I’m not sure why her husband was on the list, because neither of the men in the group looked like they could be her husband. Emma said she would read first, but I didn’t get to hear her read as I woke up.
